Search Tips
Boolean Operators
Use "and" or "or" to specify multiple words in any field in any order. Use "and not" to exclude words.
Example:
stocks and bonds
stocks or bonds
stocks and not bonds
Multiple Words
Multiple words are searched together as one phrase with the implied boolean "and" between the words.
Example: the searches university science department and university and science and department will yield the same results.
Wildcards
Words may be right-hand truncated using an asterisk (*) in place of other characters.
Example: "comput*" will match all words that begin with "comput" (e.g., "computer", "computation", etc.).
A question mark (?) can be used to replace a single character anywhere within a word.
Example: "wom?n" will return results for "woman", "women", and "womyn".
Phrase Searches
Search for complete phrases by enclosing them in quotation marks. Words enclosed in double quotes will appear together in all results exactly as typed.
Example: "business disputes" returns only records in which "business disputes" appears as a phrase.
Field limits
Setting a Field Limit in an Advanced Keyword Search limits a search only to the specified field for the specified word(s). The default "Keywords Anywhere" will search all areas of all records.
Available Field Limits:
Keywords Anywhere: Search all fields
Author: Search only author fields for specified keyword/s
Title: Search only title fields for specified keyword/s
Subject: Search only subject fields for specified keyword/s
Note: Search only note fields for specified keyword/s
